7º D - IONELA'S DREAM PET - LUCY

I wish I had a pupy called Lucy. I would like to have a brown and black Yorkshire Terrier. They are so pretty… If I had a Yorkshire Terrier, I would wake up early in the morning to take him for a walk and after school I would go to the park and play with him. I ‘m sure I’d take very good care of him and he would have his special space in the house, even if he would like to sleep with me in my bed.

THE CHEMISTRY TEACHER'S PETS - KENAI AND WINNIE

Hello, I have two pets, Winnie and Kenai. They are 7 years old and they came from a kennel, because my husband and I wanted to save these two dogs from an unhappy end. Kenai ‘s eyes are different colours: one eye is brown and the other is blue. We like him a lot, but he is not very smart. He has the ability of eating on a lying position instead od standing. He is the only dog I know that doesn't like to chase after sticks. After 7 years he still doesn't respond when we call him. Nevertheless, he is a very friendly dog. The lady at the kennel told us his brothers were killed inside a bag and smashed against a wall, so he was a very lucky pet.Winnie is very smart and there is a story about him I’d like to share with you. Four or five years ago, there was a very big fire near our house in Vale do Roxo (near the Castelo do Bode Dam). That’s why Winnie disappeared; maybe he got disoriented with the fire and the smoke. Although we have searched him everywhere, we couldn’t find him. One year later, my husband, my sons and I were drinking a cup of coffee in the central square in Tomar, when I saw a dog and told my husband that was Winnie. My husband answered I was wrong, but I was stubborn and I shouted: "Winnie". He immediately looked at me and started to run towards me and we all had the proof that dog has Winnie. A lady was looking at the scene and told us that she used to feed him because he was very friendly, and she thought he had been abandoned. A few months ago, Winnie got really sick - when he runs, he faints. He has a heart failure, and we don't know how long he will still live, but one thing is sure - we will always love him and we will never forget him.

7º D - MARIANA'S QUOTE (2)

«THERE WILL COME A DAY WHEN THE KILLING OF AN ANIMAL IS CONSIDERED A CRIME AS THE MURDER OF A MAN.» Leonardo da Vinci

THE BEAR

http://www.flixxy.com/bear-animal-nature-film.htm Click on the link above and you will see a wonderful film about animal life and survival. The Bear" is an unusually involving film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. The story deals with a young cub who, after his mother is killed in a landslide, bonds to a lumbering male Kodiak. The two of them then must cope with an invasion of hunters into their territory and Annaud makes it clear whose side he's on. The film speaks out eloquently against the senseless hunting of wildlife. Watch it, enjoy it and let the film teach you a lesson. If you cannot watch the film in the address above, copy the address below and paste it into google. http://www.flixxy.com/game-of-survival.htm

7º D - DIEGO'S PET - LOLA

I swore to myself I would not have any more dogs, after having to sacrifice Bold, a 14-year-old dog we have once found, abandoned in the street. He died of cancer. I got used to living without a dog when I met a French bulldog puppy. My mother insisted not to keep that dog, but insisted I would play with it, collect its pee, poop and vomit. Eventually the puppy was adopted by us and we called it Lola. I kept on promising I would take her for a walk everyday and I would pay for her expenses. I made friends in the park while taking her for walks. She has become part of our family and life. Dogs give you love and have always a caress for you. Dogs have no complaints they only have love and joy to give to you.

THE ENGLISH TEACHER MRS E.C.'S PET - FARRUSCO

This is Farrusco. He was born in 2007 in Torres Vedras. He is 6 years old now. When my husband and I first saw him, he was six months old. What a cute little thing he was! He still is, of course! We bought him as a present for our daughters. Our oldest daughter was really terrified of dogs and we thought it would help her to overcome her (unreasonable) fear. And it really helped her… Now she loves all kinds of dogs! Farrusco belongs to the Portuguese Podengo breed. He is lively, clever, unassuming and robust. He has got excellent physical qualities and his temper is outstanding. He is friendly and makes an excellent family pet because he is so good with children. He’s vigilant but also a very capable escape artist. By the way, let me tell you one his most distressing escaping stories. Last September, on my daughter’s birthday, he managed to get away. We were having a dinner party and while our family were arriving and greeting each other, he saw a breakthrough and went for a walk… No one noticed his absence and by the end of the evening, we saw that the door was open! Right away we knew that he had fled! What was supposed to be a joyful celebration soon became a silent and gloomy gathering! My daughters burst into tears and there was nothing that we could do to cheer them up, especially the birthday girl. After a few long worrying minutes, without knowing where he was, we decided to wait and see if he came back home! And so he did. A neighbour knocked at the door letting us know that he was standing outside the gate. What a relief! He can be quite naughty sometimes but he is a great pet!

HACHIKO - a moving film

Seventh graders have watched this amazing and moving film with Richard Gere and Hachi, a Japanese Akita Dog. A few boys were really moved and some girls shed tears.Hachi is based on the life of a real dog in Japan named Hachiko. In 1924-25, the Akita sent off and welcomed back his master, a professor, everyday at the train station. But in 1925, the professor had a stroke and died, never to return home. For the next ten years, Hachi waited for the train that would never bring back his master. When a former student of the professor discovered Hachi’s tireless love and devotion, he wrote about the dog and the Akita gained national attention. Today, a statue of Hachi stands on the spot of the real Hachi’s vigil.

«THE WILD, CRUEL BEAST IS NOT BEHIND THE BARS OF THE CAGE. HE IS IN FRONT OF IT.» Axel Munthe

7º D - BEATRIZ F.' PETS - NICO & RISCAS

Hi! I have got two cats. They are Riscas an Nico (his real name is Nicolau but I call him Nico). Riscas is three years old and Nico one year old. Riscas is yellow, very thin and fluffy. Nico is yellow, too, very fat and mean. My favourite cat is Riscas because he was my first cat. Some days ago, when my brother went for a shower, Nico slipped into the bath. It was very funny because he tried to swim. Later on he gor scared, ran away and hid under my bed. That is why I don't like him so much, he's very naughty. Riscas is quiter and more polite. My cats fight against each other everyday. They don't really get along well and they never stay still but I treat them equally!

«We cannot glimpse the essential life of a caged animal, only the shadow of its lost beauty.» Julia Allen Field

7º D - PEDRO C.'S PET - Estrela

I have a fantastic bitch, her name is Estrela, she is seven years old. Her breed is Malamute. She has got white and dark fur, brown eyes and a big hairy tail. She is an excellent watchdog, but she doesn't bark, because she comes from a family of Wolves; so she howls. She is very tender and she loves belly caress. In the summer, when it is hot, she does a hole under a pinetree and she stays there all day. Her favourite food is fish! Her best friend is my other bitch Lua, they can play all day long. I love to walk and play with her around the Serra do Louro.
